[VIDEO] Derek Jeter Slides into 8th Place on All-Time Hits List

With a leadoff single to right field in the third inning of his New York Yankees 6-4 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto on Sunday, Derek Jeter tied Hall of Famer Paul Molitor for eighth place on the all-time hits list. One inning later, he singled a grounder the same direction, again off starter Drew Hutchison, to have sole possession with 3,320 career hits.

In what he has deemed his 20th and final season in the game, the veteran short stop needs only 99 more hits before he passes Boston Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski.

It seems Jeter has yet to shake the dust of the offseason after being limited to just 17 games in 2013 due to injury. He sat out of Friday's contest, went 0-for-2 on Saturday, and 2-for-5 on Sunday before entering Monday's game batting just .250 with one hit and one RBI, though he has walked four times.

Yankees Force ALDS Game 5 with 10-1 Punishment of Tigers

The Detroit Tigers put Rick Porcello on the hill for Game 4 in the hopes that he would get the job done and send the New York Yankees packing for the offseason.

Instead, the Yanks took advantage of a couple of the 22-year-old pitcher's mistakes before busting the game wide open off the relief corps for a 10-1 victory to force Game 5 of their American League Division Series.

Derek Jeter drilled a 1-0 slider for a two-run double in the third inning before Curtis Granderson, who made a spectacular catch with the bags juiced in the first, crushed one for an RBI double in the fifth to give New York an early lead. Then they kicked the door in with a six-run eighth inning off relievers Al Albuquerque and Daniel Schlereth.

While Yankees starter A.J. Burnett sucked pretty much all season, he did what he had to do against the Tigers, who wasted opportunities with runners in scoring position the entire game. They failed to get a hit with men on four separate times, in fact.

The two teams will meet again Thursday in the Bronx for the deciding contest at 8:07pm ET on TBS. This marks the first postseason series for Detroit that will go the maximum number of games since 1972 when the Tigers lost at home to the Oakland Athletics in Game 5 of the ALCS.

Yankees Clinch Yet Another Playoff Berth

As Mariano Rivera earned his 603rd career save a day after becoming Major League Baseball's all-time saves leader, his New York Yankees punched their third straight ticket to the playoffs with a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday. In fact, this marks their 16th playoff berth in 17 seasons.

If anything, the 94-60 Yankees are awfully consistent. The worst they could do at this point is become the American League Wild-Card, with their magic number to win the AL East for the 12th time in 16 years at two. It's not even a big deal anymore. No hip bumps on the field or champagne in the clubhouse. Just their targets set dead on a 28th World Championship.

Derek Jeter Hits DL Six Hits Shy of 3,000

Derek Jeter will have to wait just a little while longer to join the 3,000-hit club.

The New York Yankees placed their All-Star shortstop on the 15-day disabled list due to a mildly strained right calf before Tuesday night's 12-4 win over the American League champion Texas Rangers.

Jeter limped off the field Monday night against the Cleveland Indians, four innings after nailing his 2,994th hit. Of course, he is much more concerned with helping his team win ballgames than his illustrious career milestone:

"I don’t like not to play. Whether it’s going for 3,000 hits or 100 hits, I’d rather be out there playing."

As If Derek Jeter Could Ever Leave the Bronx

It was inevitable. After all of the back and forth negotiations between Derek Jeter, his agent Casey Close, and the New York Yankees brass, we just knew this would end with the shortstop in pinstripes, earning a decent living.

Maybe dressing up as elves and dancing the jig helped move things along a little.

Talks Between Jeter and Yankees Heat Up

Don't look now, but the New York Yankees have raised the stakes.

The club has reportedly increased their offer in an attempt to keep All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter in pinstripes, according to an anonymous leaker near negotiations.

While Jeter's agent, Casey Close, has declined to comment, co-owner Hank Steinbrenner had this to say:
The ball’s in Derek’s court now, and his agent. It’s up to them. We don’t know how happy they are. We’ll see... There’s no possible way anybody could criticize us for what we’ve offered.
Yeah, those ungrateful money-grubbing bastards. When you're talking millions and millions of dollars, what the hell is the difference?

Happy Holidays from the New York Yankees

Everyone knows that New York Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner, general manager Brian Cashman and disgruntled shortstop Derek Jeter all get along swell in real life. In fact, they often dress up as elves and dance around with eachother...

Weighing in on the Derek Jeter Fiasco

It's been over a week since Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees have talked business.

The team offered the All-Star shortstop a fair $45 million, three-year deal, but that wasn't quite good enough for his agent, Casey Close. Apparently, he and Jeter are looking for something in the ballpark of an average $25 million over six seasons.

That would put him around 42 years old when the contract is up, which is too damn old to play up the middle. That's like 100 in shortstop years. And there no way in hell he will ever make a decent designated hitter, despite his .314 lifetime batting average.

Can We Please Give Derek Jeter Some More Awards?

Just some more shiny things for his trophy case would be great. If we could go ahead and embed some diamonds in there, too. Maybe some engraving would be nice, as well.

The New York Yankees shortstop, who is not even the best shortstop on his team, let alone the American League, received a Gold Glove for his position this season to go along with his 2009 Hank Aaron Award, handed out to the league’s top hitter… which sadly, was not him.

Rawlings Hands Out Gold Glove Hardware

Even though baseball season is over, that doesn’t mean the excitement has gone along with it.

Rawlings has handed out their 2009 Gold Glove awards (they’ve been doing so since 1957) and a couple of them went to World Series Champion New York Yankees. Managers and coaches make selections before the season ends, but are not allowed to choose members of their own clubs, of course.

The Last Baseball Game of the Season

It's a sad, sad day for baseball fans everywhere... outside of NYC.

Congratulations to the New York Yankees, this season's World Series Champions. The last day of the baseball season is a sad one for everyone. Everyone except the fans whose team just won the ring.

The Bronx Bombers won their 27th World Series title Wednesday night -- their first in the $1.5 billion new Yankee Stadium, obviously -- by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 of the 105th World Series.

And if you're a giant nerd, you might even compare this World Series to the Empire Strikes Back.

In any event, we'll be back with the gory details later Thursday afternoon, along with our saddest "There's Always Next Year" yet.

Derek Jeter: Biggest Loser

New York Yankees shortstop and 2009 Roberto Clemente Award recipient Derek Jeter appeared on NBC's The Biggest Loser this week in an effort to pump up the contestants.

We'll see who the biggest losers are after Game 2 of the World Series at 7:57pm ET tonight, where old schooler Pedro Martinez takes the hill for the Philadelphia Phillies against Yankees righty A.J. Burnett. Enjoy!

Cliff Lee Once Slammed a Revolving Door

Cliff Lee was down-right filthy Wednesday night during his Philadelphia Phillies’ 6-1 victory in Game 1 of the World Series. The placid southpaw, donning a nasty spike curveball, lasted all night long. He calmly allowed six hits and just one run, which didn’t even appear in the box score until a Jimmy Rollins throwing error allowed Derek Jeter to cross the plate with one out in the ninth inning.

Spring Fever: WBC Dominance

We've seen this sort of thing before during All-Star games. It's unsettling, unnerving, and just plain wrong. Yet, there's something about Yankees and Red Sox players high-fiving eachother that pulls on the heart strings. It's opposing sides united for the cause. It's a beautiful thing.

Even youngster Dustin Pedroia is in on it, hanging a poster of Derek Jeter’s deodorant ad in his locker.

Yanks' Wang Feels Good

spread eagleWith every Chien-Ming Wang outing comes at least one great headline.

Wang (yes, we know it's pronounced "Wong") made his first start Monday since partially tearing a tendon in his foot while tearing up the bases last June. The right-hander tossed two scoreless innings for the New York Yankees in their 5-5 Grapefruit League tie with the Houston Astros.
"I feel good," Wang said. "Nothing wrong."
On Tuesday, the Yankees get to face their captain, Derek Jeter, when they play Team USA in a World Baseball Classic exhibition at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.

The will not, however, face Alex Rodriguez, who has chosen to avoid the boos and don the Dominican Republic uniform at the WBC this season.

Derek Jeter Passes Mickey Mantle

New York Yankees short stop Derek Jeter passed Mickey Mantle on the team's career hits list Wednesday night during their 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jeter’s base hit in the third off Jesse Litsch pulled the Yanks ahead 1-0 and, amidst a standing ovation, gave him 2,416 hits for third place on the franchise list behind Hall of Famers Babe Ruth (2,518) and Lou Gehrig (2,721).
"It's kind of hard to believe," he said. "It’s always cool when you start talking about those types of names. My name doesn’t fit up there."

Mistresses For MLB Players

Alex Rodriguez cheats on his wife. Crap, the next think you're going to tell me is that Barry Bonds stuck a needle full of cow hormones into his fanny.
So in celebration of Major League Baseball players skankbag ways, I've decided to take a handful of players and match them up with their ideal slutty celebrity equivilant.

Derek Jeter and Lindsay Lohan

Jeter is one of the few players in the league to embrace his promiscuity, never get married, and make whoopee with just about every hot woman in the world (and not so hot. Jury is still out on Mariah Carey). Lindsay Lohan is a cracked out skank in rehab. I think they'd be great together.

A-Rod: "Why Can't You Love Me?!"

I know you all were picturing Derek Jeter just now, but think again. Alex Rodriguez is talking to the fans, this time.

A-Rod continues to claim that he will stay in New York with the Yankees, no matter what. It's where he's always wanted to play and where he wants to hang his cleats.

But, a loophole in his contract could allow him to choose free agency over a broken heart after this season.

In a WFAN radio interview on Tuesday, he threatened to use the option if fans did not embrace him. He says there were five or six teams this year dishing out the big bucks to lure him away from the Big Apple, but he chose to remain faithful, possibly in hopes that his middle-infield partner will take back his special friendship.
It’s a do-or-die situation. Listen. At some point, either New York is going to say, ‘I’ve had enough of this guy, get him the hell out of here’ — and we have an option — or New York is going to say, ‘Hey, we won a World Championship, you had a big year, you’re a part of it, we want you back.’
Rodriguez ignored Mad Dog's Jeter-related prodding, but when asked whether he had friends in the clubhouse, A-Rod laughed and said that he gets along "absolutely tremendously with everyone” and that maybe people pay a bit too much attention to his romantic entanglements up the middle personal life.
