Magglio Ordonez Out of Commission, Delmon Young Returns

Unfortunately for Magglio Ordonez, he will miss all the fun and excitement that comes with the rest of whatever playoffs lay ahead for his Detroit Tigers, whose outfielders are dropping like flies.

Ordonez fractured his right ankle some time during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday, exiting in the top of the fifth inning when he drew a walk between rain delays before being replaced by a pinch-runner.

Delmon Young Hits Homer in First Tigers At Bat

Former Minnesota Twins left fielder Delmon Young, who was traded to the Detroit Tigers Monday afternoon for a couple minor leaguers, had a pretty nice start to the career with his new team.

Hitting in the no. 3 spot, he jacked a first-inning solo shot off former teammate and friend Francisco Liriano. This, after going yard just four times with the Twins all season.

Some players grow beards. Some don't change their underwear. Some even lob off their luxurious locks. Will this drastic change in Magglio Ordoñez's appearance help his slumping bat? Only time and hair gel will tell.

Just Another Baseball Chick

Sooze has been very busy recruiting. I am yet another proud addition to the Babes Love Baseball website. I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and I am a cradle Tigers baseball (sad) fan. I am using the name Maggliana 1) because it's more interesting then Sara and 2) I am truly impressed by Magglio Ordonez's creativity in naming his daughter. Really, he could've just pulled a George Foreman.

I think well-played baseball is totally sexy. I think Giambi should be thrown in jail for that thing on his face. And coming from someone who the term "throwing like a girl" would be a vast improvement, I just love to watch the game. Really. I'm one of those freaks who still think it's the best sport.

And I'm pulling for the Twins cuz I want to see the White Sox go down. Hard.

Your 2007 Batting Champions

How important do you have to be to get a personal phone call from Hugo Chavez? At least as awesome as Magglio Ordonez.

The Detroit Tigers finished their final game of the season Sunday night with a 3-for-4 night from the American League batting champ, who won't be playing baseball this October.

Ordonez ended the year with a .363 batting average, crowning him the best hitter in the American League, which was no surprise, as he led the majors in that category for most of the season.

Meanwhile, Chipper Jones, who failed to get a hit on Sunday, was about ready to continue his constant reign of awesomeness with a .337 average for the National League batting title when suddenly, the Padres and Rockies got to play 163 games in their seasons.

NL MVP candidate Matt Holliday, who went 2-for-6 on Monday to earn the title, finished his outstanding year batting .340 with 36 homers and 137 RBIs for the Rockies.

We were able to catch up with Detroit Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez after the marathon last night to ask him a few burning questions and to see if we couldn't find a way to touch his luxurious locks.

Lizzy: "Maggs! Thanks for making the time to speak with us. I'm sure you're exhausted."

Magglio Ordonez: "Magglio doesn't get tired."

Sooze: "First thing's first. You're batting .357 with 25 homers and 115 RBIs this season. How does it feel to be in the running with Ichiro Suzuki for the American League batting title?"

Magglio Ordonez: "It feels fabulous."

Sooze: "Kind of like your hair, I bet."

Magglio Ordonez: "My what?"

Sooze: "You heard me. Can I touch it?"

Magglio Ordonez: "Touch what?"

Sooze: "Your hair."

Magglio Ordonez: "No one touches Magglio's mane."

Sooze: "..."

Magglio Ordonez: "..."

Lizzy: "Awkward."

Magglio Ordonez: "Are we done here? Magglio has diffusing and defrizzing to do."

Sooze: "We actually just wanted to confirm one more thing."

Lizzy: "Yeah, you and your wife have 3 children. Magglio Jr., Sophia and... Maggliana?"

Magglio Ordonez: "That's right."

Sooze: "Seriously? Maggliana."

Magglio Ordonez: "Yes, it's a beautiful name. Magglio knows."

Lizzy: Told ya! You so owe me $20.

Sooze: "Damn it."

(Magglio Ordonez flips his hair as if in a shampoo commercial)

Lizzy: "That'll be all Princess Ordonez. Good luck to you, your 'do, and the Tigers the rest of the season."

Sooze: "I hope the Tigers miss the playoffs and all your hair falls out."

Lizzy: "Twins fan."
