Delmon Young Hits Homer in First Tigers At Bat
Former Minnesota Twins left fielder Delmon Young, who was traded to the Detroit Tigers Monday afternoon for a couple minor leaguers, had a pretty nice start to the career with his new team.
Hitting in the no. 3 spot, he jacked a first-inning solo shot off former teammate and friend Francisco Liriano. This, after going yard just four times with the Twins all season.
While Young had a career year with 21 home runs and 112 RBI in 2010, he's on no where near the same pace this season. With injuries to his oblique and ankle, the left-handed hitter is batting just .269 with 33 RBI in 85 games so far in 2011.
On the other side of this trade is a guy who has almost certainly seen his one-year career in Detroit end with the Young trade. Magglio Ordonez and his luxurious hair refused to speak with reporters in the clubhouse after the game, probably because he was too sad at the prospect of being replaced by a guy who pretty much sucks just as much as he does.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before the game that Young would assume a primary outfield role, with Ordonez relegated to backup duty, though he did play right field Tuesday night with Delmon in left. With Maggs making $10 million to more or less ride the bench, I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone before the season ends... or ends up in a Twins uniform next year.

I actually called that home last night. I was watching the game with my husband, looked at him and said, "Watch. He'll hit a home run here."
I'm not allowed to make calls anymore.
