After losing a few heart-breakers and struggling to put runs on the board over the last couple of weeks, the Chicago Cubs pounded out 17 hits to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3 in a make-up pit stop, and tie the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central lead.Cardinals starter Joel Pineiro lasted just 3.1 innings, surrendering 6 earned runs on 8 hits.
Aramis Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two homers and 3 runs scored while Jacque Jones went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs of his own. Derrek Lee hit a bomb in the five-run fourth and Craig Monroe added a pinch-hit 2-run single in the eighth.
Cubs starter Ted Lilly earned his 15th win with 7 strikeouts over seven good innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits.
Jim Edmonds homered in the second and So Taguchi belted a two-run blast to left in the sixth, but no more Cards were allowed to cross the plate.
This win marks just the third in eight games for Chicago, who find themselves back into a first-place tie with the Brew Crew, as Milwaukee lost 9-0 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
However, don't count the Red Birds out just yet, as they are sitting a mere 3 games behind the NL Central leaders.
