Seattle Mariners: Late to the Party
The Oakland Athletics hit not one, but TWO grand slams last night in their 9-3 win over the slumping Seattle Mariners!
Too bad they won't be playing baseball in Oakland next month.
The Mariners are headed for a baseball-less autumn as well, if they can't start winning some ballgames. Remember when they were like, 20 games over .500 a few weeks ago? Well, now they're 8 games over, which would be good enough if they played in the NL Central, but they don't.
They play in the AL West and are staring at the sweet backside of Vlad the Impaler and the Los Angeles Angels, whose magic number is 12.
There's the Wild Card as a possibly to help the Fishermen enter the postseason, but they have to contend with the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers to do so. The Yanks lead the WC by 3.5 games over Detroit and 5.5 over Seattle -- which is a lifetime in baseball years -- with less than 20 games left to compete in the season.
