Random MLB Signings and Spring Training Invites

The Los Angeles Dodgers have invited Jeff Weaver to their Spring Training shindig with a minor league deal after the right-hander went 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 games for them last year. The 33-year-old is a career 99-118 with a 4.67 ERA over 10 seasons in the big leagues.

Weaver would earn $800,000 next year if he's added to the 40-man roster and could see $100,000 in performance bonuses if he doesn't suck.

Weaver Dumped On Bullpen DL

It seems Jeff Weaver has managed to suck his way to the Seattle Mariners' bullpen.

Along with allowing six runs on 10 hits over just five innings on Thursday, Weaver has given up at least six runs in five of his six outings this season. He hasn't even pitched more than six innings in any start thus far.

have been surrendered with 19 for extra bases over his 22 innings. So at this point, he's lucky to even have the opportunity to join the relief corps. Weaver, who has racked up an alarming 14.32 ERA, will most likely be replaced by Cha Seung Baek for the next scheduled start.

Brendan Donnelly Busted with Pine Tar

Brendan Donnelly is restrained by teammates after Seattle's Jose Guillen ratted him out for using pine tar, which caused the benches to empty in the eighth inning.

The Red Sox celebrated their Home Opener by roughing up World Series star Jeff Weaver for seven runs. Jason Varitek and Kevin Youkilis each had three of Boston's 14 hits, and J.D. Drew homered in his debut at Fenway Park. The Sox also drew seven walks and hit seven doubles.

Josh Beckett pitched a seven inning two-hitter, striking out eight and allowing only one run while sending down his final 15 batters. The Mariners didn't help their cause, committing two errors between leftfielder Raul Ibanez and shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt.

Mariners Sign Jeff Weaver

There's nothing like adding a World Series pitching hero to your roster in the off season, even he is somewhat mediocre in real life. After winning a championship ring in the National League, Jeff Weaver won't be swinging any bats where he's going - back to the American League to fill out the Seattle Mariners starting five.

The Mariners have reportedly agreed to terms with the free-agent righty on a one-year contract worth $8.325 million, which is no more and no less than he made last season when he went 8-14 with a 5.76 ERA in 31 combined starts with the Los Angeles Angels and the St. Louis Cardinals.
