Rangers Crush Twins with 20-6 Demolition
The Minnesota Twins headed down to Texas to take on the smoking hot Texas Rangers Monday for a three-game series. They got their asses kicked like a little league team in game one.
In all fairness, scoring six runs should be good enough to win a ballgame. Unless the other team scores 20 and you're forced to put your right fielder on the hill in the eighth inning after using up all your pitching staff.
After five innings, the Rangers were dominating the Twins by a score of 18-1. Twenty-seven hits later, fans in Arlington were chuckling at the scoreboard that read: "No Wave Warning. Doing the wave is safe at pro football games and Miley Cyrus concerts. Children doing the wave will be sold to the circus."
Twins fans got a treat in the eighth inning when Michael Cuddyer dashed out from the bullpen, becoming the first Twins position player since 1990 to pitch in relief. It wasn't pretty, but after two hits and a walk that loaded up the bases, he got of the jam and gave his team one more chance for a comeback. Four grand slams oughta do it!
Nick Blackburn allowed nine runs on 11 hits over just 2.2 innings before Jose Mijares surrender five runs in two-thirds of an inning. Chuck James lasted a whole inning and coughed up four runs. Only Phil Dumatrait and Cuddyer worked scoreless innings... which is pretty amazing after that debacle.
Ron Gardenhire:
"The first five innings looked like a ZIP code, that will tell you how it went…33354. I think that’s Florida…Fort Lauderdale."
At Gardy's age, you have to have a sense of humor after a game like that.

That game was awful - quit watching in the fifth. I missed Cuddyer pitching, but saw it on MLB Network this morning. He wasn't that bad!
I'm callin' it right now: Rangers vs. Pirates in the WS. Who's with me!!
I was at the Mayo Clinic this morning with my Grandma. I had no fewer than 4 people tell me I was very loyal to still be wearing a Twins shirt today after last night's disaster. :)
All I can say is yikes.
