We've returned from a much-needed three week vacation to the news that yet another (sucker of a) team has agreed to give Dontrelle Willis a shot at reviving his once-promising career.
The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a minor league deal with the lefty, who has struggled, to say the least, over recent years.
Willis, who earned the NL Rookie of the Year honor in 2003 with the World Series Champion Florida Marlins, compiled a 13-24 record and 5.81 ERA since the beginning of the 2007 season. That's pretty crappy.
The lefty went 0-2 with the Detroit Tigers in 2008 and then 1-4 in 2009 before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, who designated him for assignment after he puked up a 1-1 record and 6.85 ERA with 27 walks over 22.1 innings.
Then the San Francisco Giants signed the soon-to-be 29-year-old to a minor league deal back in July. Clearly, that didn't work out so well considering he returned to free agency this offseason.

As for Dontrelle, at least the Reds aren't spending any serious money on him. It just goes to show that if you throw left handed and have ever had any success whatsoever, no matter how long ago, someone will always give you a shot (see: Carlton, Steve; Twins, Minnesota)

Jim hit the nail right on the head. He's a lefty, so he's valuable regardless of his recent performance. In all honesty, he doesn't even have to pitch, he might even make a decent .250 hitter. Hey, anything is possible!
