Season Previews: Atlanta Braves

Since the season is already underway, we should probably keep moving along with our Season Previews, which we were apparently supposed to finish before Opening Day... Three years ago, they began as a semi-serious analysis and ended up as half-assed haiku. We're just gonna go with what we know. Continuing with our preview of the National League East, here are the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta Braves
Could pose an actual threat
To the Phillies' reign.

Chipper Jones is old made his
Big league debut when I was
Fourteen. (Stop the math!)

Jason Heyward made
Quite a splash in his first game.
Rookie of the year?

Derek Lowe's the ace,
Hurling along with Moylan,
Hanson and Hudson.

Melky's joined the squad,
Hanging in the outfield with
Jay-Hey and McLouth.

Cox has been tossed more
Than any other skipper,
Done after this year.

With Cox on the way
Out, maybe they'll try to
Win it all for him?

This could be the year
When they top the NL East.
Watch your back, Phillies!

Nice piece, though most Braves fans would disagree that Lowe's our ace. Personally, I have higher hopes for Huddy or Jurrjens - pitching opening day doesn't automatically equal ace! ;)

I think it's that way with a lot of clubs at the beginning of the season... as a Twins fan, I'm hoping Liriano will return to ace form, though he's the #5 guy right now!

Pretty sure I wanna marry Jason Heyward and have his babies... which is kind of creepy sounding now that I think about it, what with me being 31 and him being not even old enough to drink wine at our wedding.

Chipper hurt himself today. Hope he's alright! One of these days he's gonna break a hip.

Lauren, I totally agree with you on that, but trying to express that sentiment in haiku form sucked. :)

Marea, I commend your efforts. I certainly couldn't have done it! My opening day piece on Braves Love was totally lazy, though I did get a horrible video of Heyward's first home run from the RF upper deck stands. :)
