Exactly a month ago, the St. Louis Cardinals were staring down an autumn without a postseason. Now, in the last week of the season, they have pulled within one game of the Atlanta Braves for the National League Wild Card with just three games to play after Sunday's 3-2 win over those good old fashioned Spoilers, the Chicago Cubs.
Skipper Tony La Russa and the entire team decided to don Hawaiian t-shirts before the game in a showing of unity... I'm not sure I get that, but I guess it's kind of like the Tampa Bay Rays sporting their Rayhawks back in 2008. Whatever happened to old school superstisions like not washing your jock strap or eating turkey sandwiches before every game?
The Cardinals trailed the Braves by 10 1/2 games heading into play on August 26. Since then, they've gone an incredible 20-8,winning 15 of their last 20 games. Luckily for St. Louis, they will end the season with three games against the Houston Astros, the absolute worst team in baseball. But meanwhile, Atlanta will host the Philadelphia Phillies, who just so happen to have the best record in the game. However, anything can happen. Maybe they'll sweep, maybe they'll be swept.
The other story here is the fact that Sunday's game may have been Albert Pujols' last at Busch Stadium as a member of the home team. Let's not forget that infamous hug between him and Cubs manager Jim Hendry back in May. A free agent after this season, the All-Star first baseman refused to negotiate his contract during the regular season in an effort to avoid being a media side show. That back-fired however, as soon as we made this awesome video of him as a rival Cubbie.

That video was hilarious. How did I not see that before?! God I hope he goes to the Cubs.
Pujols isn't going anywhere. People flipped out when he hugged Hendry, that's so dumb. He's a lifelong Cardinal and he'll retire in St. Louis.
Two guarantees for my fellow Cards fans:
1. They won't win the wild card;
2. Pujols will not be in a Cardinal uniform in 2012.
