Nelson Cruz Hurts Hamstring, Out Three Weeks
After injuring his hamstring once again, Nelson Cruz is expected to miss about three weeks of baseball.
The AL West-leading Texas Rangers confirmed a grade 1 strain Monday after reviewing his MRI. So now he gets to have an injection in his left hamstring. Ouch.
Cruz hurt himself running out a double in the sixth inning of Sunday night's win over the Los Angeles Angles. This, after missing 51 games last season due to three stints on the disabled list with hamstring problems. He also landed on the DL earlier this season for 17 games with a strained right quadriceps. He should stretch more.
Over 113 games this season, Cruz is batting .270 and still leads the team with 28 home runs and 84 RBI. If you were on planning to place a bet on the Rangers October hopes, don't forget about the Angels, who trail them by just 3.5 games. And with Cruz's bat out of the lineup for a good chunk of the playoff push, that could hurt. I'm not saying it's time to freak out, but it's a little early to get cocky. Especially when they'll end up playing each other in Anaheim to polish off the season.
Get well soon, buddy. Arlington misses your boomstick.
