Dan Uggla Gets Five-Year Deal from Braves

We're not sure, maybe you can help us. Is it possible for Dan Uggla's neck to get any more ridiculously ginormous? Was his head photoshopped onto that picture?

The Atlanta Braves have signed Uggla to a five-year contract extension worth $62 million, keeping him up the middle until 2015 to avoid arbitration.

After turning down a three-year, $24 million offer from the Florida Marlins last summer, the second baseman was traded to the Braves in November for infielder Omar Infante and lefty Mike Dunn. What a deal.

Uggla, who turns 31 in March, batted .287 with 33 homers and 105 RBI last season, and has averaged 31 longballs, 100 runs 93 RBI over his five-year career. Not to shabby.

What's also pretty impressive is that he now holds the highest annual salary ever for a second baseman. Yes, he makes even more money per season than the wildly popular, puppy-loving Chase Utley. Also, he's the only second baseman in the history of the game to hit 30-plus homers in four consecutive seasons. Badass.
