Derrek Lee Has a Home for Another Year

Derrek Lee, who agreed to terms with the Baltimore Orioles last week, finalized the one-year deal Thursday for $7.25 million.

Lee, who will have the opportunity to earn an additional $2.75 million in performance bonuses, hit 19 home runs with 80 RBI last season between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.

The free agent first baseman has hit at least 20 homers in nine of the last 11 seasons, nailing 35 with the Cubs in 2009. With 312 bombs over 14 seasons in the game, the Orioles are hoping the 35-year-old will be able launch some baseballs into the stands for them.

In fact, the club is banking on him at the very least matching Luke Scott's 27 bombs from last season, since Ty Wigginton (now a Colorado Rockie) was the only other Baltimore player to top 20 homers last year, contributing 22 of his own.

Hopefully Lee stays healthy. Good luck with that!
