It's not often that we throw a sad face into the title of a post, but upon hearing the news on Chipper Jones, we're super bummed out. Almost inconsolable... we definitely need a hug.
After injuring his knee on a sweet play at third base Tuesday night in the sixth inning of the Atlanta Braves' 4-2 win over the Houston Astros, Jones is out for the season.
What's worse, the switch-hitting, All-Star hot corner has likely ended his illustrious career as well. At 38 years old and about as injury-prone as they come, Larry Wayne was already planning on forgoing the final year of his three-year, $46 million contract extension he was awarded in April of 2009.
He shredded his ACL on the play and will definitely need surgery at some point, an MRI revealed Thursday morning.
Batting .265 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI, Jones was beginning to rebound from a crappy beginning to the 2010 season and a disappointing 2009. Sadly, the NL East-leading Braves will just have to deal with Omar Infante and Brooks Conrad platooning third base.

He was gonna retire anyway after this season, but it's a bummer he couldn't finish out the year.

I'm almost as sad as when Kirby Puckett retired.
Him and his cauliflower balls can sit down. He's disgusting, and it's time for him to let someone else be the face of the franchise for a while. Mac is cuter anyway.
I'm a Philly phan in Minnesota (an untenable position at best) and I still admire Chipper. I cannot lie and say that I'm thinking we might have a better chance of taking over first place in the NL East, but he is an adversary I've always respected.
