But a day after falling out of first place in the American League East, the team finally got rid of him and added a little depth to their roster. Lugo, who signed a free agent contract worth $36 million for four-years before the 2007 season, was designated for assignment Friday, but is still owed $13 million through next season.
Live and learn.
Boston swapped the worthless shortstop along with a bunch of cash to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Chris Duncan. This move came just after they traded two minor leaguers (shortstop Argenis Diaz and right-hander Hunter Strickland) to the Pittsburgh Pirates for first baseman Adam LaRoche, who will split time with the oft-injured Mike Lowell.

GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!!
It's too bad that Julio Lugo has a World Series ring while Roy Oswalt, Jim Thome, Roy Halladay, Todd Helton, etc. do not. I wonder how long he'll hang around St. Louis before wearing out his welcome.
Haha, Julio apparently just needed a change of scenery, as he is tearing it up in the StL baby! Lugo is rocking it.. just helped us tie the Mets tonight (who knows, we may loose by the end of the night)
So thanks for him, as well the 13 mil.
Coming to baseball's Promised Land does have this effect on a lot of players.
Anonymous, I was seriously JUST saying the same thing. Sometimes, that's all a player needs to get hot again is a change of scenery!
