Miguel Cabrera Comes Clean

No, not about his alleged steroid use, but about his age.

First of all, let me make this clear: I am not one to condemn people for lying about the year they were born. I was under the age of 21 at one time and was very thirsty.

Tejada admitted to Houston Astros general manager Ed Wade on Thursday that he is actually 33... two years older than everyone thought.

The veteran shortstop was bush-leagued during an interview on ESPN's E:60 -- which airs next Tuesday -- when his actual birth certificate was presented to him. Surprise!

Tejada grew up poor in Bani, Dominican Republic, and thought it would make him more valuable if he told the Oakland Athletics he was 17 when he signed with them in 1993, a suggestion which was made by a youth baseball coach.

His character is already under federal investigation after he allegedly lied to government authorities regarding steroid use. Does this make him a bad person? Not really. A poor decision-maker? Probably.

So, since this is the internet, you don't have to wait until Tuesday to see Miggy uncomfortable, embarrassed, and ashamed on television. Sports by Brooks has the video.

I understand why he lied, but when I saw the footage of his interview on Sportcenter, I was disappointed that he was so defensive and dishonest initially. He only came clean because he was caught.

Ditto, Bass. It makes all the sense in the world to do what it takes to make it into the big leagues, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
