Keith Foulke officially ended his retirement this weekend, returning to the Oakland Athletics for a $700,000, one-year deal, including the opportunity to earn $2.5 million more in bonuses.After leaving the A's to win a World Series with the Boston Red Sox, the right-handed reliever signed with the Cleveland Indians. Injuring his back and knee in 2005 and 2006, he announced his retirement the day pitchers reported the following season, complaining of elbow soreness. He's now expected to serve as a setup man alongside Alan Embree for closer Huston Street.
Foulke and his sneaky changeup have a career 41-34 record with 190 saves and a 3.30 ERA over 11 big league seasons, including stops with the San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox. He was 9-1 with 43 saves and a 2.08 ERA in his first stint with Oakland.
