Ian is Trying to Ruin My Day Off

Johan SantanaIan, a dear friend of mine who writes for the excellent Boston sports-based site, SOX & Dawgs, sent a news blurb to me this afternoon, possibly in an attempt to ruin the last day of my four-day weekend.

I kid, I kid.

Actually, this rumor has me more intrigued than feeling like a pissed off/helpless/frustrated fan.

In the midst of my love/hate relationship with the Minnesota Twins organization, more news regarding the imminent trade of Johan Santana surfaced this morning by way of Peter Gammons.

Phil Hughes would replace Johan's hotness, at least.Apparently, the Twins want Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and minor league youngster Austin Jackson as a package deal from the New York Yankees for the two-time Cy Young award winner. This may seem like a ridiculous amount of compensation for one 28-year-old pitcher, but when that hurler is considered the best in the biz, all rules are shot out the window.

I'm even a little excited/nervous/terrified to see what happens during next week's winter meetings when the rest of the elite teams lay their offers on the table...

Nah, I'd never try to ruin your weekend.

Your right though, it's going to be very interesting to see what happens when all these rumors start flying out the window.

Excited/nervous/terrified about covers it for me, too.

I'm confident he's a goner.

The Twins want one thing, Johan wants another. If I were the GM, I'd trade him; however, I'd also strip someone's minor league system....

With Torii gone, it's almost like it's a new age in Minnesota.

I'm already having to be a reluctant Angels fan.
PLEASE don't make me be-fan the Yankees too :(
PS. I wish they'd throw A-Rod in that trade deal.

If the Twins can't get Santana to agree to an extension they have to deal him. They would be better off getting 3 or 4 prospects instead of letting him walk like Hunter did. Let's all just hope he doesn't end up with the Yankees.

Chaz, who are you burning in effigy? Not that it matters as long as there are cookies and punch.
