Edgar Renteria Out For a Few Weeks

The Atlanta Braves, who released Julio Franco on Wednesday, placed shortstop Edgar Renteria on the 15-day disabled list Friday, following the sore back and high right ankle sprain he suffered the day before while trying to field a hard Ty Wigginton grounder.

Renteria is batting .336 in the #2 spot with 11 homers and 53 RBIs this season.

In a related move, righty reliever Joey Devine was recalled from the AAA Richmond Braves to take Renteria's place on the roster.

Devine was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 6 games (7.1 innings) with Richmond this season.
