Big Hurt to Likely End His Career Hurt

so old... and big... and hurt
Frank Thomas is done for the season, and likely his career. Surprise!

The 40-year-old Oakland Athletics' designated hitter was removed from the 15-day disabled list and placed on the 60-day DL Wednesday. This, of course, means he will not be playing anymore baseball in 2008. Yay math!

The Big Hurt -- most appropriate nickname ever -- has been out of commission three times this season with right thigh problems and tendinitis in his quadriceps. And oldness.

Thomas will finish his life as a baseball player with a .301 career batting average, 521 home runs (tied for 17th on the all-time list) and 1,704 RBIs over 19 seasons. Only Mel Ott, Ted Williams and Babe Ruth finished with those kind of numbers, so that's some good company.

Happy trails, Frank! It's been real.
