Cubs Roll to 40 Behind Marquis

The Chicago Cubs, whose 40-24 record is still the best in the bigs, polished off a 4-3 road trip with a split series against the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday when Jason Marquis took a two-hitter into the seventh for a 3-1 victory.

Mark DeRosa provided the run support with a 3-for-4 night, highlighted by a 3-1 pitch from Brad Penny, which he took yard for his 8th homer of the season.

The Cubs are pretty much ridiculous right now, save for a two-game losing streak from Friday to Saturday. Good thing they won Sunday, cause they're the only team left in the world to avoid a three-game skid all year long. Also kinda neat, it took them until July 1st in 2007 to reach 40 wins. That's progress!

Not so neat for the Cubbies is that the St. Louis Cardinals are hot on their trail with 38 victories, sitting just 2.5 games behind the division leaders.

The highlight of this game was watching Joe Torre's interview in the 5th. Joe Morgan made a reference to a "former" Dodger's manager, and Torre thought he was talking about him! hahaha...

Marquis has a good game like every 5th start, I still think the Cubs will obtain a starting pitcher from someone by the end of the season to take his spot in the rotation....I'm crossing my fingers that that pitcher will not be Dontrelle Willis.

He looks soooo bad!
