Igawa The Kei To Padres Pitching Woes?
The San Diego Padres were awarded the Kei Igawa claim Friday, and the club has until Sunday to work out a trade with the New York Yankees for the 28-year-old lefty.
No American League team wants the Japanese hurler, and the Padres are the best team so far to inquire.
Even though Igawa has pretty much stunk this season, the Yanks won't be quick to part ways with him without a sweet deal in return. They dished out $26 million this winter just to negotiate with the Hanshin Tigers before signing him to a five-year, $20 million contract.
With the loss of 44-year-old David Wells this week, Igawa could be an upgrade for San Diego's rotation, as Justin Germano and Wilfredo Ledezma currently fill out the hind-end of the five-man order.
Igawa has already been optioned to the minors twice this year and has compiled only a 2-3 record with an unflattering 6.79 ERA.
He's also walked 32 batters in just 62.1 innings, showing off his complete lack of control.

I think it's hilarious that the Yanks tried to follow in the Red Sox footsteps in getting a player from Japan and are going to end up eating most of that contract.
Suckers.
Kei Igawa as Napolean Dynomite: "GOSH! Worst day OF MY LIFE!"
Haha! He totally looks like Napoleon there.
Snappy title, there.
The Yankees did not try to follow in anyone's footsteps. They've have several Japanese players over the years. For that matter, the Red Sox weren't following in anyone's footsteps either, since there have been many players from Japan over the last decade.
Shonen - I was only referring to the insane amount of money they paid to negotiate with the Hanshin Tigers - it was no $51.1 million like Boston paid to the Seibu Lions to talk about Daisuke - but still a hefty amount. And for what? A 6.79 ERA and 2 wins? Not at all worth it.
