Jake Westbrook Around For Three More

Before possibly losing him as a free agent, the Cleveland Indians inked Jake Westbrook to a three-year, $33 million contract extension (no options) through 2010 on Friday.

The 29-year-old righty has been one of the American League's most reliable pitchers over the past three seasons, winning 44 games. Since his All-Star year in 2004, he is one of only four pitchers to win at least 14 games in each season and one of only eight to pitch at least 210 innings in the last three years. He went 15-10 last season, including a big-league high 8 games after August 1st and is a career 56-53 with a 4.30 ERA.

Now that Westbrook is taken care of, the Tribe can focus on the possibility of new deals for designated hitter Travis Hafner and left-hander C.C. Sabathia.

This only means that Hafner or Chi Chi will be gone...

Before the season started, the Tribe had 3 big free agents coming up: Westbrook at the end of this season and Pronk and Chi Chi at the end of 2008....it was widely speculated that the Tribe was not going to sign all 3...

Well, Jake is in the mix....

Yeah, lots of clubs would be interested in Hafner. Like my Twins, for instance. ;)
