Reds, Athletics Swap Crappy Players

The Cincinnati Reds have traded Willy Taveras along with infielder Adam Rosales to the Oakland Athletics for infielder Aaron Miles and some other guy they'll decide on in the near future.

Things could have gone a whole lot better for Taveras in Cincinnati last season, after he hit just .240 with a shoddy .275 on-base percentage as the team's leadoff hitter. The oft-injured center fielder did, however, steal 25 bases. I guess that counts for something. Maybe a change of scenery will help him get back into the swing of things, and possibly even reanimate his numbers from 2007, where he batted .320 over 92 games.

Good Lord.

Okay, I'm not going to go on and on about how ridiculously awesome it is that it once again took Ryan Zimmerman only one inning to nail a 1-1 pitch from San Francisco Giants righty Matt Cain for a single to center Tuesday night. Alright, maybe I'll go on a little. This, of course, extends his hitting streak to 30 games.

The only other third baseman to be this consecutively badass was the infamous Pete Rose, who hit safely in 44 straight games, back in 1978. And actually, that doesn't even count, cause Rose played two games in left field during that span.

The Colorado Rockies center fielder swiped a career-high five bases on catcher A.J. Pierzynski Saturday to help put a stop to the Chicago White Sox nine-game home winning streak with a 2-0 victory.

Incredibly, Taveras singled, doubled and walked, yet managed to avoid scoring as the Rockies went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position, getting 2 unearned runs to win the game.

"I always have the green light," Taveras said. "So I just picked the right spot to run."
