Vicente Padilla Caps Himself in the Thigh...Maybe

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Vicente Padilla shot himself in the thigh while hunting in Nicaragua.

It's only funny because he's not seriously injured... or dead.

There are a few different stories floating around out there as to what actually went down. According to media reports in Nicaragua, Padilla was injured at a shooting range. At least two other reports stated that he was accidentally shot by a bodyguard who was attempting to fix Padilla's gun. USA Today says the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Regardless of how it happened, he's going to be just fine, as the bullet mearly grazed his skin and he was in and out of the hospital in 40 minutes. His agent, Adam Katz, was informed by Dodgers general manager Ned Coletti that the team is interested in re-signing him for next season, which may be a pleasant surprise after his Game 5 clusterfu*k.

I'm not sure how many more late-inning comebacks I can take. But man, they sure are exciting.

The Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for two runs in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the NLCS against the reigning Champion Philadelphia Phillies, coming away with a 2-1 victory Friday night.

Vicente Padilla Knows Karate

Ah, brawls. Really, they're the only thing more exciting than a stolen base or a squeeze play.

It all started when Oakland's Nick Swisher was nailed by a Bill White pitch in the seventh inning on Saturday. As the umpires issued a warning to both benches, Swisher glared toward the mound.

Swisher, who hit a bomb in each of the first three games of the series against the Texas Rangers, was hit again on Sunday in the first inning by Vicente Padilla, and this time he'd had enough.

The switch-hitting outfielder charged the mound and tackled Padilla while A's second baseman Jack Hannahan, making sure not to miss any of the action, dove into the pile as well.

Second base ump Tim Timmons fell to the ground during the melee before plate umpire Chuck Meriwether tossed only Padilla and Swisher, who had to be restrained by several teammates. This marks the first time Swisher has ever been ejected and the second time for Padilla.

A's starter Lenny DiNardo lasted just two innings. "I was definitely in a different mental state in the second inning," he explained. "My first instinct was to go out and hit the first batter. The umpires and coaching staff told me just to throw strikes and I didn't do a good job of that."

DiNardo gave up five runs and two hits with four walks and a strikeout, lasting just 1.2 innings for his second straight start.

Michael Young was the star of the night for Texas however, as he drove in 7 runs on 3 hits and a walk. Sammy Sosa had 2 RBIs for the Rangers while Brad Wilkerson and Nelson Cruz drove in the last two.

Mark Ellis, who has officially hit in every spot in the batting order, nailed 3 RBIs and Kurt Suzuki drove in two runs for Oakland in their heated 11-9 loss.
