White Out Indefinitely

For all of you hardcore fantasy owners out there that have Rondell White on your roster, we've got some bad news.

After hearing a "pop" when running on Thursday, the veteran Twins outfielder underwent an MRI on his injured right calf muscle.

The exam showed a tear, leaving him out indefinitely.

Rondell White is Damn Old

Following the Minnesota Twins painful attempt at playing baseball 8-2 loss to the Yankees on Monday, the club placed infielder Jeff Cirillo and outfielder Rondell White on the 15-day disabled list.

With Old Man White's lingering right calf strain and Cirillo's inability to do anything right run due to a sore left knee, the team's bench was shallow.

White was trying to jog Monday for the first time since his injury on Saturday night, but it became clear that he was not ready to perform. He hurt himself not playing baseball, but while running out of the dugout steps and skipping onto the field before the game against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular. The club hopes a short stint on the DL and some rest will have White back in action before long.

Cirillo's injury could keep him out much longer, since he is now scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery to fix an old meniscus tear in his left knee. The utility infielder played only once so far this season - in the team's Opening Day game against the Baltimore Orioles. He received a cortisone shot in the knee last Tuesday, but felt the same pain while running sprints on Sunday. Cirillo will likely be out of commission for 4-6 weeks.

This led the club to call up second baseman Alexi Casilla from AAA Rochester and purchase the contract of delectable outfield sensation Josh Rabe. Yes! The speedy Casilla is 1-for-8 in 2 games for Rochester while Rabe Baby is batting .429 with 1 homer and 3 RBIs so far this season.

White To Return To Outfield

The Twins have reached an agreement with outfielder Rondell White on a $2.75 million, one-year contract. With a second-year option and performance bonuses, White could make $8.5 million with 650 plate appearances or more in each of the next two seasons with a $250,000 buyout (pending a physical).

White had more than a rocky start to the 2006 season. After being bothered by shoulder problems and a hamstring injury halfway through the year, he was batting just .182 with 15 RBIs and no home runs as the club's designated hitter. He was then placed on the DL and sent down to AAA Rochester for a rehab assignment.

Rondell came back to take over in left field for hobbled rookie, Jason Kubel and finished the year with a .246 average, seven homers and 38 RBIs in 99 games. The move will likely leave Kubel as the leading candidate to fill the DH spot, with newly-acquired veteran Jeff Cirillo also seeing plenty of time there.
