Don't Shoot The Messenger!

San Francisco Giants reliever Randy Messenger, who likes to rock the ghetto fabulous crooked cap, was placed on the 15-day disabled list after he was nailed in the hand by a line drive during batting practice Wednesday.

At first, it was only a bruise, but X-rays later revealed his hand was broken. No punching anyone in the face with that mitt, Randy!

Messenger is 1-4 with a 2.62 ERA and one save this season.

Giants, Marlins Swap Relievers

Have you ever completely screwed something up at work, then just waited for that meeting to be fired?

Just two days after being fooled by Jose Reyes into balking twice in the same inning before giving up the game-winning home run to Carlos Delgado, closer Armando Benitez has been traded to the Florida Marlins. In return, the San Francisco Giants will get reliever Randy Messenger.

The jumpy, hard-throwing veteran is 0-3 with 2 blown saves and a 4.67 ERA so far this season. The 34-year-old Benitez is returning to his roots, where he set a team record with a career-high 47 saves in 2004 - his only season with the Marlins.

Messenger was 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA going into the Florida's game at Milwaukee last night and is making the absolute minimum of $380,000 this year. In three seasons, the 25-year-old righty is 3-8 with a 4.98 ERA over 111 relief appearances.
