Weed Out the Crap: Borowski and Francoeur

Joe Borowski, being a total mouth-breather
Last season's AL saves leader has sucked it up long enough for the Cleveland Indians.

After blowing his fourth save in 10 chances on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox, Joe Borowski (1-3, 7.56 ERA) was designated for assignment Friday. Some fans may contribute the right-hander's hardships to a lingering arm injury. But really, he just flat-out sucks these days. No control, no velocity, no talent.

Joe Borowski Lands on DL with Bruised Ego

Joe Borowski, pictured to our right after doing something crappy like loading the bases or serving up a ninth-inning bomb, has landed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained triceps muscle.

The Cleveland Indians closer has lost most of his velocity since Spring -- his fastball is topping out at 83 mph -- and after being examined by doctors, he was told to stop sucking at pitching for a while.

Tribe manager Eric Wedge says Borowski could be out of commission for as long as a month, leaving setup man Rafael Betancourt to handle the closing duties. If that should turn out to be a horrible idea, right-hander Jorge Julio, who has 99 career saves, will take over.

Righty Tom Mastny, who just missed making the club this spring, was called up from the AAA Buffalo Bisons to take Borowski’s spot on the roster.
