Ladies And Gentlemen, J.P. Arencibia

Holy crap. Babes Love Baseball may have just found themselves a new boyfriend. The Blue Jays pounded the Rays on Saturday night in a 17 - 11 homerun derby, and Tampa's right handed knuckleballer James Shields gave up 6 of the 8 Toronto homeruns before being pulled from the game.

More astounding than Joe Maddon leaving his starter in long enough to give up that many runs was the amazing performance by a fresh off the farm 24-year-old rookie catcher named J.P. Arencibia.

Arencibia swung at his very first major league pitch and drilled it over the left field wall for a two run shot. As if that wasn't impressive enough, he decided to follow up with a double, a single, and ANOTHER homerun. All on the first four pitches of his major league career. Show off.

Stephen Strasburg is an Animal

We really don't care that it was against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who some may call a sub-par team. No disrespect intended, of course. Stephen Strasburg's big league debut impressed the crap out of us.

The 21-year-old righty allowed just two runs on four hits, including a shot by Delwyn Young in the fourth, Tuesday evening at Nationals Park. The highlight? He struck out an incredible 14 batters and walked no one through 94 pitches. In fact, the young phenom fanned every single Pirates batter at least once, including the final seven he faced.

Jamie Moyer Should Be Proud of Pedro Martinez

Because Pedro Martinez pitched almost exactly how I imagine Jamie Moyer would have, if the whiner was starting tonight... give or take three or four runs. But he's crying in the bullpen instead.

The old school righty was handed plenty of run support during his first five innings in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform. As of right now, his new team is up 12-3 over the Chicago Cubs in the top of the seventh.

Martinez allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out five in his debut... which is kind of rough, starting your big league season out with a 5.40 ERA with just 10 starts remaining.

Matt Wieters: We Can't Wait

Matt Wieters. We can't wait to see this guy squat behind home for the Baltimore Orioles.

The 23-year-old 6'5" catcher will make his major league debut this Friday against the Detroit Tigers, as announced by team president Andy MacPhail this evening. It's not like he's going to single-handedly drag the Orioles out of the basement of the AL East, but it'll be fun to watch him hit.

A Tale of Two Zim(m)s

During a game in which maybe 25 of 1,000 fans stuck around for the glorious finish, and the bullpen tossed three hitless innings, highly-touted pitching prospect Jordan Zimmermann won his big league debut. Pretty awesome, considering who he's pitching for. That's right, victory #2 for the Washington Nationals, this time over the Atlanta Braves.

Zimmermann impressed the small crowd over six strong innings, allowing two runs off six hits, with three strikeouts and a walk. Not bad for a 22-year-old kid from Wisconsin. A second-round draft pick in 2007, he played at D-III school Wisconsin-Stevens Point and hadn’t played above Double-A ball until this season. Stud. Muffin.

El Capitán Chorizo to Start Tuesday

New team, new nickname. If he would've landed with the Phillies, we would've called him Colonel Cheesesteak. Believe it.

Spankin' new Milwaukee Brewers lefty C.C. Sabathia (traded by the Cleveland Indians Sunday for Double-A outfielder/first baseman Matt LaPorta, Class-A righty Rob Bryson, and AAA lefty Zach Jackson) is scheduled to debut at Miller Park against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday night, followed by another start against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, which should be enough to get him all settled in before the All-Star break.

Remember when Mark Mulder was awesome?

The St. Louis Cardinals lefty returned to the mound Monday night, not to start (Lohse dominated that position) but to finish. And after two shoulder surgeries, maybe he's just lucky to be back on the hill.

Mulder, 30, made his first career relief appearance, doubling as his season debut against the New York Mets, serving up a scoreless ninth in his team's 7-1 victory. He allowed two hits before getting Jose Reyes to fly out to end the game. Welcome back, buddy!

Welcome to the Big Leagues Daryl Thompson

Daryl Thompson was so pumped to make his major league debut on Saturday, he forgot to get directions to Yankee Stadium.

Seriously. The kid hopped on the subway and ended up in Brooklyn, making himself late to his own first day. But once he arrived, Thompson wasted little time in making a good first impression. The 22-year-old Cincinnati Reds right-hander let the leadoff hitter on in each of his first four innings, with a two-out walk in the fifth, but narrowly escaped trouble every time.

Thompson ended up allowing just four hits with two strikeouts, walking four over five shutout innings in his first big league outing, resulting in a 6-0 Reds victory. He may not be able to find his way out of a cardboard box, but he can certainly pitch out of one.
