Oh my gosh it's World Series time. Finally. Those two days without baseball sucked.
C.J. Wilson and the Texas Rangers are already in St. Louis getting all geared up for Game 1 against Chris Carpenter and the Cardinals tonight at 8:05pm ET on FOX.
You know, something about C.J. bothers me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I never have trusted a man who doesn't drink. However, I might change my mind and give him the benefit of the doubt if he pitches a 1-0 shutout and one of his teammates rips his jersey off.
The World Series is old news to the lefty, who lost Game 2 to the reigning champion (for now) San Francisco Giants last season, despite pitching his ass off. Maybe using a hyperbaric chamber will be the kicker this season.
A year after earning the NL Cy Young Award, Carpenter pitched eight shutout innings during Game 3 of the 2006 World Series, which the Cardinals won in five games over the Detroit Tigers. After missing almost the entire 2007 and 2008 seasons due to injuries, his arm is still treated much like a ticking time bomb. The right-hander experienced some elbow soreness back in August and again in Milwaukee during the NLCS, but he says he's feeling good.
There are so many deserving players in this series. Nelson Cruz has shown the entire baseball-loving world that if you need a longball, he's the man for the job. Josh Hamilton has been to hell and back, and would love nothing more than to touch a World Series trophy.
Meanwhile, Michael Young reached the 2,000 hit milestone in early August, and has enjoyed seven All-Star games with an American League batting title, but no championship. Also, he seems to like Mitch Mooreland quite a bit.
And I'm sure Albert Pujols, who might not even be wearing a Cardinals uni next season, could really use another World Series ring.
There hasn't been a Game 7 in the Fall Classic since back in 2002 when the Anaheim Angels beat the Giants. While I'm sure FOX would love to see this contest go all the way, what are the chances it will?
Also, it's a real shame there's no place in St. Louis to hold an awesome promotion like this one from last year in San Francisco.
