Red Hot Detroit Tigers on their Way to October

The Minnesota Twins failed miserably at playing the spoiler Saturday night when Brandon Inge nailed a game-ending home run to give his Detroit Tigers the 3-2 victory and a -- advantage in the American League Central. With two out in the bottom of the ninth, the -- -hit a 2-1 --- from Glen Perkins into the left field stands.

Although it was a dramatic and exciting moment for Inge, he was humble and humorous:

"Trust me, if I could do that on command, I wouldn’t be hitting .194."

Saturday's win lowered the Tigers' magic number to nine over the Chicago White Sox and eight over the Cleveland Indians... and like 24 over the reigning ALC champion Twins.

What a difference a year makes... no Game 163 this season fellas. In fact, you night as well book your cheap international flights now to plan your fall vacation to wherever it is you go to forget how much you sucked this season. Where have the Pittsburgh Pirates taken international flights to for the last 18 consecutive seasons? A little networking couldn't hurt ya know. Maybe they could start a We Suck at Baseball club.

Also, it was Star Wars night at the ballpark, so the nerds were in full effect. Prior to the game, there were a ton of costumed characters on the field, so naturally, Trevor Plouffe came out of the Twins dugout and rubbed his bat all over Darth Vader’s helmet. Clearly, the force was not with him, as he struck out during his first two at bats.

I love that Brandon Inge quote. At least he's keeping it real!
