Welcome Back, Chipper Jones (False Alarm)

Chipper Jones is the kinda guy where you either love him or hate him. Since we more than love him, his coming off the disabled list is excellent news. You're just going to have to bear with us through this short welcome back post.

The Atlanta Braves third baseman returned from his 15-day trip after convincing (and perhaps lying to) the Braves organization, saying that he no longer feels that nagging "discomfort" in his right knee that more or less comes with pushing 40.

Jones, who was batting .259 with eight homers and 46 RBI before landing on the DL, underwent arthroscopic surgery on July 9 to repair torn cartilage in the knee. After working under the supervision of trainers on Monday, he feels ready to return to the Braves lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening.

Update: So... Chipper is hurt again and won't start for the Braves Tuesday night. He went and strained his right quadriceps on Monday, just a day after returning from yet another stint on the DL. The only awesome part about this development: he remained in the game after the injury occurred in the sixth inning, and smashed a home run in the eighth. What a badass.

Jones had this to say regarding his latest injury:

"I’m getting tired of talking about the things that are keeping me out of ballgames. It’s getting old."

Heh... old.

I can't believe he hurt himself his first day back. Actually, I'm not surprised.
