It's About Damn Time

Welcome back to the action, Justin Morneau.

After being sidelined by a season ending concussion just before he was set to play in the All-Star game last July, Justin Morneau FINALLY played ball today. During the first half of the 2010 season, the Twins first baseman was on his way to another MVP caliber season, batting .345, hitting 18 bombs, and 56 RBI before sliding headfirst into the knee of Toronto shortstop John MacDonald.

Our Canadian Crusher played in his first game this spring in a B-squad game against the Pirates. His first at bat was nothing to write home about, other than he actually had a first at bat. But on his second trip to the plate, he cracked a bases loaded double. Welcome back, indeed.

There had been so many interviews with Justin over the last few months in which he was feeling better, but still experiencing concussion symptoms. Twins fans were starting to fear that he was going to turn into another Canadian - Corey Koskie - whose career was cut short after never being able to fully recover from his concussion. Fans were starting to wonder if he'd ever get cleared by his doctors to return, or if he'd have to hang it up permanently. Luckily, their prayers were answered today with his appearance in the lineup. Yahoo! Here's hoping that he's symptom free and will continue to play during the rest of Spring Training and be ready for Opening Day (which, by the way is in 24 days. Not that we're counting...).

Helluva good day for us Twins fans!! What a relief. I was one of those that feared his career would have a Corey Koskie ending.

Great photo! Have you been saving that one just for this special occasion?

Oh...and just for the record, Morneau's fateful slide was FEET FIRST, just like he was taught at the Canadian Baseball Academy.

Margo, you're right about how he slid, but his head went first into the knee. :)

FYI regarding your strib article:

Alexi Casilla is the starting shortstop, not Ramirez.

Brian Fuentes is an Athletic, not an Angel.

Jim Thome turns 41, not 40.

No offense, but I mean seriously, just a little research before posting for a nationally respected paper would be nice.

Concussions do suck.

Anonymous, thank you for pointing out my errors this afternoon -- no excuses, but I was running late and not thinking. Next time, please feel free to use your real name. Don't be scared! :)
