October 27: Bill Buckner etches his name in the memory of baseball fans everywhere with the image of an easy grounder hit by Mookie Wilson rolling right through his legs to help the New York Mets pull even with the Boston Red Sox in Game 6 of the World Series.
The year was 1986, Jamie Moyer's rookie season with the Chicago Cubs. Yes, I realize some of you weren't even born yet.
My point: Moyer underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. The kicker: he's actually planning on pitching again once it heals, a comeback set for two seasons from now. He will be 49 years old.
Moyer, who injured himself during his third winter ball start in the Dominican Republic, claims he can still be a successful major league pitcher after undergoing one of the most unpredictable surgeries known to pitchers.
Part of me believes the guy, considering he's a total workhorse. The free agent has made 30 or more starts in a season 11 times over his long-as-hell career and has reached double digits in wins 15 times, including four of the last five seasons.
Moyer has enjoyed 23 seasons in the big leagues, which is apparently not quite enough, with a career 267-204 with a 4.24 ERA.
Well... he does have eight children to support.

He's quite an athlete, but two year in the future it's hard to say how he'll feel. I bet he has a go at it though!
Ahh memories. I'm really dating myself here, but I remember 1986 like it was yesterday!
