The 28-year-old outfielder, who played for the San Diego Padres last season, became a free agent when his Hall of Fame father's former team failed to offer him a 2011 contract.
He's not all bad, though. Gwynn, a career .276 pinch hitter, swiped a career-high 17 bases in 21 attempts over 117 games with the Padres last year.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves have handed George Sherrill a one-year contract to the tune of $1.2 million.
The lefty struggled last season with Dodgers, going 2-2 with a crappy 6.69 ERA, walking 24 batters in 36.1 innings with four blown saves. However, he did hold left-handed hitters to a .192 ERA, so he's not good for nothing.
Maybe he was just going through a rough patch last year. Back in Baltimore, he saved 51 games for the Orioles over two seasons. He was even an All-Star for them in 2008.
Last but not least, Scott Downs finds himself $15 million richer after signing a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels. Over nine big league seasons, the 34-year-old lefty is 27-28 with 16 saves in 379 games.
