That Roy Halladay acquisition is looking better and better for the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
The right-hander won his 20th game of the season Tuesday with a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves to give the Phillies a five-game division lead over Atlanta and reduce their magic number to six. Even more impressive is the fact that Halladay became the team's first 20-game winner in 28 years.
It’s definitely special but the best part about it is it’s been secondary for me. Being able to get to the playoffs is the priority. This guy is on the verge of punching his very first ticket to the playoffs. That's right, in 12 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, his team sucked every single year.
Halladay is now 20-10 with a 2.53 ERA and 213 strikeouts on the season. Not bad big guy!
Fun fact: Although Doc is the first pitcher to 20 wins in the National League, CC Sabathia beat him to it for the New York Yankees on September 18 with an 11-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
