The Clock is Ticking in the NL West

If you thought things were nuts in the American League East, get a load of the National League West.

Just a half game behind the division-leading San Francisco Giants and one behind the NL Wild Card-leading Atlanta Braves, the San Diego Padres are right in the thick of it. They'll go for their sixth consecutive victory Wednesday night during game two of their three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The Padres made a convincing case Tuesday with their 6-0 win in the series opener via a Clayton Richard complete game shutout (the first of his career) but failed to gain any ground since the rival Giants managed a 1-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Giants are hoping for another gem out of Jonathan Sanchez at Wrigley Field tonight after seeing San Francisco hurlers putting up a ridiculous 1.01 ERA over the team's last 10 games.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies, just three years out of a World Series appearance, are trailing the division by 2.5 games and the Wild Card by three after losing some ground last night with their 3-1 loss to the last-place Diamondbacks. Damn those spoilers.

With just over a week left of the regular season, it's anyone's division. Who do you think will win it?

First of all, love that show. Second, I think the Giants will hold on to win it and the Braves will give Bobby Cox one last playoff appearance.

I agree with Jacob, it is anyone's division to win at this point, but the Giants pitching has been outstanding. If they can keep that up it'll be no problem.
