Adam Wainwright: Perfect at Home

Adam Wainwright pitched six solid innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday for a 2-0 St. Louis Cardinals victory to improve to an incredible 10-0 with a 1.31 ERA at home.

The All-Star right-hander, who is 14-5 on the year with a 2.02 ERA, has allowed just one earned run over his last 29.1 innings pitched. Saturday night, he surrendered five hits and struck out three batters for his fourth straight victory and sixth of his last seven. Also, he's managed 19 scoreless innings in a row.

Though Wainwright's success in the Gateway to the West began long before the All-Star break, he did get a couple pointers from fellow All-Star Tim Lincecum at this year's Midsummer Classic.
I asked him his changeup grip, and he showed it to me. I hope this doesn't get him in trouble, but I threw it in the bullpen during the All-Star game. I kind of worked with it on the fly during the game [Saturday] and probably threw eight or 10 of them. It's a work in progress, but it's a certainly a good pitch.
Well, it definitely works for Timmy Jim, who is 10-4 with a 2.94 ERA and 136 strikeouts for the San Francisco Giants this season.

Fun fact: Wainwright became the first ever Cardinals pitcher to win his first 10 starts at home, after a record 25 consecutive quality starts at Busch Stadium.

Skip Schumaker and Brendan Ryan provided the run support, driving in a run a piece.
