The New York Mets shortstop was offended by the following comments made by the former Met and Just For Men spokesperson during Sunday's broadcast following a glove-throwing fit Reyes tossed after making a throwing error...
"Well, he's got to get over that," Hernandez said. "Enough babying going on now. He's a grown man. He's been around a long enough time. Take off the kid gloves."We've decided that Keith's opinion is warranted after being reminded of the tantrum Reyes threw after being pulled from a game by Jerry "Gangsta" Manuel a couple weeks ago.
Reyes and Hernandez allegedly almost kicked eachother's asses before being separated by a group of Mets players. Why he didn't just yell, "I can say anything I want, I'm Keith Hernandez!" we don't know. That would've straightened out the whole situation.
So... it's kind a mess in Flushing right now, huh.

Flushing is definitely awry right now. But it's only July, as they say. I have faith.
First it's Willie Randolph, a few front office stories in the middle, and now Reyes. No matter what he does it seems he is going to be criticized. People generally like the bat slamming, shows of emotion type stuff, and have been clamoring for more of it from this team for a long time. And now some guy does show some emotion and he's hammered for it.
The media is going out of its way to "inform" the public. What they are doing is promoting propaganda, angst, anger and embarrassment. Kevin Kernan of the NY Post even writes "Every time Reyes pulls a childish act like that, he gives all those who are waiting to pounce - and there are plenty of critics in this city - ammunition to fire away." This bum even goes as far as to say that Reyes "tantrum" have cost him an all-star call.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it cost him an All-Star call, but it's safe to say that once you're in the public eye, you're in the public eye. It sucks, but everything these guys do is going to be put under a microscope.
I get pretty disappointed when I see players throwing shit. I appreciate the fire and the passion, but calm down. Throwing things (such as punches, helmets and wild parties) is not a class-act move. Ok, we'll let the parties slide.
