New York Yankees short stop Derek Jeter passed Mickey Mantle on the team's career hits list Wednesday night during their 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Jeter’s base hit in the third off Jesse Litsch pulled the Yanks ahead 1-0 and, amidst a standing ovation, gave him 2,416 hits for third place on the franchise list behind Hall of Famers Babe Ruth (2,518) and Lou Gehrig (2,721).
"It's kind of hard to believe," he said. "It’s always cool when you start talking about those types of names. My name doesn’t fit up there."[NY Daily News]
