The side-winding set-up man injured himself on a slider in the eighth Thursday against the Chicago White Sox, describing the feeling as a "tweak" in the joint. After an MRI on Friday revealed an acute partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow-- the same ligament repaired during Tommy John surgery -- he landed on the 15-day disabled list.
Neshek won't be throwing any baseballs for at least three months, which pretty much leaves him out for the season, but surgery isn't likely.
"So we're going to prepare for opening day next year. It just needs a little bit of time to heal and a little bit of rehab to build it back up," he said.In 15 appearances this season (13.1 innings) Neesh was 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA with 15 strikeouts. Replacing him on the roster is lefty Glen Perkins, who was recalled from the AAA Rochester Red Wings to start Saturday again the Boston Red Sox. Rightys Jesse Crain and Matt Guerrier will share the eighth-inning load for lights-out closer Joe Nathan in Neshek's absence.
Well, at least they won.

God that sucks, Neshek was a huge anchor in our bullpen! And I hate JC.
As a Tigers fan, I know what it's like to lose a special reliever like Neshek (Zumaya) Be patient, and hopefully he'll return back to normal by next season.
Neshek's delivery is so insane that it doesn't really surprise me that his elbow hurts. His patience is reassuring, but I can't help but be worried. And a little sad.

Pat Neshek? I didn't even notice him in that pic. *drool*
Suzy, first you bought Cuddyer's jersey, then he broke his finger. If I recall correctly, you purchased a #17 2 weeks ago. Look what you've done! You just need to buy different team's shirts now. Start with Big Papi, then get Thome, then Cabrera... You get the idea.
KAITLYN!
I'm just extremely glad that Neshek was smart enough to know that something was wrong before he tried one more throw... It sucks to lose him for a season with a partial tear - but to lose him for potentially 2 years because of TJ surgery while they rebuilt his tendon? Horrors..
wasn't his crazy sidearm delivery due to a high school baseball injury in the first place?
also folks, it's MY FAULT. neesh was on my fantasy team (as was franchise until he got demoted to the minors, as was puntober last year when he sucked like a gaped chest wound). i should just pick up all the key players from the AL central rivals so the twins can continue to win in peace.
