New York Yankees first baseman Andy Phillips wasn't in the lineup once again Monday and could be looking at more time on the bench due to a wrist injury. Phillips was nailed by a Jason Hammel pitch during New York's 8-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Sunday, and is listed as day-to-day with a bruised right wrist.
Tests revealed a fracture, so he's sporting a splint and is scheduled to see a hand specialist. The 30-year-old Phillips, who is batting .292 with two homers and 25 RBIs this season, described the pain as feeling like somebody "hit him with a hammer."
Controversial slugger Jason Giambi replaced him at first today.
