Big Z Gets Big Money

Carlos Zambrano hasn't exactly had the patience of a saint, and his season thus far has been pretty eventful, but he's still into the whole monogamy thing.

Waiting around for a sweet deal has finally paid off, as the Chicago Cubs ace agreed to a five-year, $91.5 million payday with an option for a sixth season on the only club he has ever been with.

Even after the Cubbies went on a $300 million spending spree in the off season, Big Z got the full no-trade clause he demanded with a $5 million signing bonus, including a possible $19.25 million extension. The option stands if he finishes first or second in Cy Young Award voting in 2011, or top four in 2012 and is healthy at the end of the fifth year of the deal.

Failing to earn his 15th victory over his last three starts, the two-time All-Star has a 14-9 record (78-51 career) with a 3.86 ERA.

Poor Michael Barrett.

Screw that, anonymous. Zambrano may have had some issues the past couple starts with his health and consistency, but he is still 100x the player than that bitch Barrett.

Tell us how you really feel, Bass.

Thanks for the linkage. The scary thing about this signing is that Zambrano probably would have gotten much more on the open market in the off-season. Not that he's complaining, of course...
