The Philadelphia Phillies, apparently looking to buff up their starting rotation, nabbed the righty from the Cincinnati Reds on Monday for the younger, more perennial minor league lefty Matthew Maloney.
The 28-year-old Lohse, who is 6-12 with a 4.58 ERA in 21 starts this season (2-9 with a 6.42 ERA away from the Great American Ballpark,) had this to say about his numbers:
"I feel that way, but my numbers are what they are. ... I had a couple bad games here and there that kind of skewed the numbers."
Mhmm.
The 23-year-old Maloney went 9-7 and compiled a 3.94 ERA in 21 starts with the AA Reading Phillies, striking out 115 batters in just 125.2 innings. He was the South Atlantic League pitcher of the year in 2006, going 16-9 with a 2.03 ERA for the Class-A Lakewood BlueClaws.

The vast majority of the voting public on ESPN's SportsNation believed the Reds got the short end of the stick in the Lohse trade.
