Friday's Babelicious Scoreboard
Cincinnati Reds starter Kyle Lohse took a one-hit shutout straight into the ninth before giving up three consecutive hits and a run to open up the inning.
His heroics helped the club with the absolute worst record in the majors find a way to beat the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks, who have lost seven of their last nine games.
Lohse (5-10, 4.47 ERA) struck out five and walked two in the righty's second complete game of the season; his career sixth. Don't get cocky, kid.
In other exciting Reds news, Ken Griffey Jr. capped Cincinnati's three-run fifth with a 419-foot, two-run dinger off righty Micah Owings for his 23rd homer of the season.
It also just so happened to be enough to tie Hall of Fame legend Frank Robinson for sixth on the career home runs list with 586. Congrats, Junior. Adam Dunn and Brandon Phillips also homered for the Reds, who won back-to-back games for the first time since June 10th and 12th.
Tragically, the D'Backs were 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position for the second straight night, struggling at 41-for-231 over their past 30 games.
Owings (5-4) allowed six runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks in just 4.2 innings, becoming the 372nd pitcher to give up a longball to Junior.
Stupid Fact From Elias: It was the first time Griffey had ever hit a home run on the 6th of July.
