Michael Cuddyer's Cannon on the DL

As the Minnesota Twins lineup continues to struggle at the plate, the news of Michael Cuddyer's thumb injury comes as a blow to the family jewels.

He tore ligaments in his left thumb during Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers when he made a hard slide into second base in an attempt to break up a double play.

An MRI exam showed the ligament damage and doctors expect him to need 10-14 days of recovery time.

The good news for Minnesota is that Cuddy should be able to get away with a soft brace for the next 5-6 days before becoming eligible to return from the DL on August 3rd. He is batting .289 with 10 homers and 56 RBIs this season.

Darnell McDonald's AAA contract was selected and he replaced the right fielder for this weekend against the Los Angeles Angels. McDonald was batting .282 with 2 homers and 13 RBIs with the Rochester Red Wings this season.

In other Twins news, congratulations to Joe Mauer on his first big league inside-the-park home run. The stand-up dinger came off Scot Shields in the bottom of the eighth with two on and one out, aiding in Minnesota's 5-2 victory over the Angels.
