Josh Beckett became the first Boston Red Sox pitcher to win his first six starts since Roger Clemens in 1991. Impressively, he is just two behind the team record shared by Babe Ruth in 1917, Dave Ferriss in 1945 and Roger Moret in 1973.
Beckett (6-0, 2.72 ERA) allowed three runs and six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to help the Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 6-4 on Wednesday night.
Julio Lugo and Alex Cora each drove in 2 runs for the Sox while J.D. Drew and Big Papi both had an RBI a piece.
Oakland's Mike Piazza went 2-for-3 before leaving due to a shoulder injury which will keep him out four to six weeks. Dan Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run driven in and Jason Kendall had a 1-for-4 night with 2 RBIs.
Chad Gaudin (1-1, 2.70 ERA) lasted just five innings, allowing 3 runs - 2 earned - on eight hits, walking two and striking out two.
