Thursday's Babelicious Vacation: Mets @ Braves
Atlanta Braves starter John Smoltz (7-2, 2.58 ERA), baseball's all-time leader in postseason wins, hit another milestone last night.
The 40-year-old veteran became the first pitcher in history to reach 200 wins while also recording 150 career saves when he threw seven shutout innings to lead his club to a 2-1 win over the New York Mets and former teammate Tom Glavine (5-2, 3.39 ERA) last night.
The Future Hall of Famer gave up seven hits without a walk and struck out five, becoming the National League's first seven-game winner as the Braves improved to 6-3 against the Mets this season.
Glavine also pitched well, giving up only five hits and two runs over six innings for the Mets. Just 5 wins away from his 300th career victory, Glavine fell to 3-11 in 18 starts against the Braves despite retiring the last eight batters he faced.
Atlanta's runs came on a Jeff Francoeur sacrifice fly in the first inning before Matt Diaz homered to deep right in the second.
The Mets scored their lone run on a Julio Franco groundout in the top of the ninth.

What a diligent blogger.
Please try not to be so diligent in the future about reporting Mets losses, if you don't mind.
Smoltz is going to make a great broadcaster some day; his post-game interviews are always really lively.
