The fact that the Kansas City Royals (10-22) are losing 100 games a year lately has nothing to do with the Detroit Tigers (19-11) win last night. Nope. The Tigers are just on a mean roll right now. Make that seven straight W's.
Zack Greinke (1-4, 5.71 ERA) allowed six runs and nine hits over just four innings. It was reminiscent of his his previous outing against the Tigers on April 16th, where he failed to even get out of the first inning, allowing three hits and four runs on a Pudge grand slam.
The outfield did their part offensively, as Craig Monroe, Curtis Granderson and Gary Sheffield hit two-run bombs in the second inning, getting a leg up to beat the Royals 13-4 for their 14th win in 15 games.
Monroe and Neifi Perez, who also homered, had four RBIs and Granderson drove in three runs. The Tigers, who haven't lost since April 28th, outscored the Royals 26-12 in the three-game sweep.
Chad Durbin (2-1, 5.45 ERA) gave up two runs and six hits in 7.2 innings, with three strikeouts and no walks. He cruised into the eighth with a two-hit shutout but the Royals loaded the bases with three singles and scored a run on Shane Costa's double-play grounder. Tony Pena Jr. then smashed an RBI double, but it was too-little-too-late for KC.
