Squeeze Play: Padres @ Braves
There are a couple of geriatric NL matchups tonight, Randy Johnson vs. Jamie Moyer being the eldest, but we're going with the Hall of Fame one, instead.
Veteran right-hander Greg Maddux and the San Diego Padres (18-15) will face old-school righty John Smoltz and the Atlanta Braves (20-12) at 7:35pm ET.
For eleven seasons, these guys were teammates (1993 thru 2003) and tonight, they'll go head-to-head for the first time in nearly 15 years. The last time they pitched against each other was July 10, 1992, when Maddux - a Chicago Cub - lost to Atlanta 4-0 as Smoltz threw a four-hitter gem. In three meetings, Smoltz is 2-1 with a 1.17 ERA with two shutouts while Maddux has posted a 2.79 ERA with a 1-2 record.
Smoltz, who is just three victories shy of 200 lifetime, dominated the Padres last season, pitching 23 shutout innings while winning all three of his starts against them. He hasn't suffered a loss against San Diego since 1999, accumulating a string of 14 appearances - including five starts - without a defeat.
Andruw Jones ended an 0-for-21 slump with two hits yesterday, including the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning. Mr. Jones is batting .183 at home however, compared to his .288 road average.

are you saying Randy Johnson won't be a HOFer?
No.. I'm saying Jamie Moyer probably won't make it into the Hall. Maddux and Smoltz however, will be there some day.
Horray Old people!
